Entry 5

Part A (about the child)

Tanner got to daycare today and instantly got his football cards out and started talking to his friends quietly and respectfully only being slightly obnoxious at times. After about thirty minutes I asked him if he had done his homework and he said he did not have any today. I whipped out my specialized green back packers word search. He was thrilled and took it home to finish.

Part B (about you)

I feel like this semester has definitely brought out a bunch of growth for Tanner. I definitely loved seeing his special interest working out so greatly for an easy activity that even the other children would do.  

Entry 4

Part A (about the child)

Tanner really amazed me today. He got a majority of my children into a game of bench tag. I had to improvise some quick rules because he started diving after seeing him do it everyone else started doing it. He actually managed to slide into the bench. He got a scrapped knee and it was bleeding, but he refused to go inside and get a Band-Aid worried it would make him look like a baby.

Part B (about you)

            I was really impressed with Tanner. It was an outside day with individual play and he just got his own game going starting it up by himself. I learned about his perceived gender role and feeling it weak or unmanly to get a Band-Aid.  I definitely think he is becoming more confident and can see it in his actions.

Entry 3

Part A (about the child)

            Today Tanner and I got to actually hangout for a while just playing catch and talking. He made a comment about how he was Jordy Nelson and killing it as he caught pass after pass. I questioned him about his special interest and why he does some the things he does. He answered a lot of my questions with a story accompanying every comment of his. When we went inside for the day he followed me in and sat next to me in our room. He got out his football cards and showed me his Packers collection until his parents came to pick him up.

Part B (about you)

            I learned a lot about his feelings towards school. He lacks a lot of motivation and will need to work on that or at least where it comes from. He was funny and creative and said some pretty interesting things. I am a bit worried about how Grand Theft Auto affects some of the actions he will do later in life.

Entry 2

Part A (about the child)

 Today started out rough for Tanner. We were stuck inside because it was raining outside and he was feeling pent up and argued with his other teachers. I asked him to go and get his homework but he finished that in like ten minutes so we had an hour to kill. I asked what he wanted to do and he just said go home and play Call of Duty. He did not like the idea of coloring. I learned that at school he brings his football cards and shows those off with friends. One of our rules is that there are no football cards allowed at the daycare due to trading and stealing reasons. I asked my manager if we could change this rule to a reward and she agreed. Tanner was psyched to get out his cards and talk with his friends quietly at their table. Never have I seen him so behaved indoors.

Part B (about you)

            After today, I feel like we accomplished a lot. Found a small thing that would keep him busy when we’re stuck inside. I’m going to have to work on some more activities for him to do at daycare. He is obviously really smart so I feel like he outpaces a lot of the word searches we have so I am going to have to try to find some tougher ones that are not so tough he loses motivation.

Entry 1

Part A (about the child)

I observed how Tanner played with the other children. He was definitely the boss of the group of boys he plays with. They played football outside for about twenty minutes before another boy pushed Tanner and tanner instantly retaliated knocking the boy on his butt as I ran over to intervene. He quickly yelled and was furious he was put in timeout arguing with me saying he had done nothing wrong.

Part B (about you)

            After today, I feel like I need to find better ways for Tanner to vent his anger and emotions. Going to have to work on the entire clique because they’re all very rough and want to play real football on rocks and don’t understand why I do not let them.  I do plan on using football as a vent for him when he is stressed out.
